This is the highest number of first-time MPs in Lok Sabha in the last three decades. These numbers include MPs who might have been Members of the Rajya Sabha before, but have been elected to the Lok Sabha for the first time.

226 MPs (42%) have been elected to the 16th Lok Sabha with prior Lok Sabha experience. Ram Vilas Paswan from Bihar, Kamal Nath from Madhya Pradesh and P.A. Sangma from Meghalaya have been elected to the Lok Sabha for the ninth time in the 2014 general elections.
Kariya Munda and Shibu Soren from Jharkhand, Sumitra Mahajan from Madhya Pradesh and Arjun Charan from Odisha have been elected to Lok Sabha for the eighth time in the 2014 general elections. Sumitra Mahajan also has the distinction of being the woman MP with the most legislative experience in the 16th Lok Sabha.

Of the 281 BJP MPs elected to the 16th Lok Sabha, 116 MPs (41%) have been MPs before, while 165 MPs (59%) have been elected to the Lok Sabha for the first-time. Of the 44 INC MPs, 35 have been MPs before (80%). The AIADMK has 34 first-time MPs (90%). AITC has 19 first-time MPs (56%) while the BJD has 12 (60%).

171 MPs who were part of the 15th Lok Sabha are going to be part of the 16th Lok Sabha. The largest number of MPs who continue from the 15th to the 16th Lok Sabha are from West Bengal (18 MPs), followed by Karnataka (17 MPs), and Maharashtra (16 MPs).
