Bangalore: In good news for Bangalore residents, the Karnataka government has decided to continue with the city's nightlife extension for a year. This came after a meeting with the city's police commissioner and senior state officials on the matter.
Earlier this year, the state government had extended the limit for nightlife in the city to 1 am on a three-month trial period which expired this week. Pubs and bars in the city can now be open till 1 am on Fridays and Saturdays while eateries can be open till 1 am on all days of the week. However, till the formal order is not received on the matter, eateries, pubs and bars will have to shut down by 11:30 pm. A formal order on this is expected in a couple of days.
Earlier in March when the city's nightlife extension decision was take, the city police was reluctant to allow it, but their objections were overruled due to mounting pressure from groups like the Bangalore political agenda committee. "We've already taken guards to help the police, that's why I said it's on trial basis," Karnataka Home Minister KG George had said.
The decision had got people celebrating. The restaurant owners had issued a note of caution too. "It is on a trial basis, so my request to all Bangaloreans is not to create nuisance. It is for us to prove now," Junaiz K, GM, Empire Group of Hotels, had said in March and now after the meeting of the city police and senior officials, Bangaloreans can party till 1 am.
