New Delhi: Almost two weeks after two cousin sisters were allegedly gang-raped and brutally murdered in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh, sources said that the Centre has recommended CBI investigation into the case. Facing severe criticism from political parties and international bodies as well, the Akhilesh Yadav government had earlier given its nod to a probe by the CBI. The sources further said that the CBI is already in the process of forming a team in this regard. The state Home Department had earlier in the day held a high-level talk with the DoPT secretary on the case being handed over to the CBI.
"In Badaun incident, the family members are demanding a CBI inquiry. Today I talked to secretary DoPT (Department of Personnel and Training) and have got a positive response. We have already written a letter recommending probe," UP Principal Secretary (Home) Deepak Singh Singhal had told reporters then.
