Natural Calamity Relief For Farmers: Diggy Begins Fast. Congress General Secretary Digvijaya Singh will stage a seven-day hunger strike at the Guna district headquarter in Madhya Pradesh starting today. Mumbai: Congress General Secretary Digvijaya Singh will stage a seven-day hunger strike at the Guna district headquarter in Madhya Pradesh starting today. He is protesting against the state government for not providing relief to natural-calamity hit farmers.
In a statement, Mr Singh on Sunday said that he had submitted a letter to the Guna district collector on June 19, highlighting that farmers affected by hail and floods were not getting relief and that they also did not get soybean seeds or fertilisers.

"I am sitting on a 7 day hunger strike to raise the issues of Farmers in MP Compensation not paid for crop damage because of Hail and floods (sic)" tweeted Mr Singh, adding, "Appeal to all Farmers to move to the nearest road to their village and do Dharna on 7th from 11 am to 5 pm if they haven't got compensation."
He also demanded payment for crop insurance scheme, prevention of black marketing of fertilisers and raised other related issues, warning that if all these demands were not met, he would stage a hunger strike.
"Soyabean crop damage last year farmers yet to get Crop Insurance Soyabean Seed and Fertilizer not available," tweeted Mr Singh.
Meanwhile, Guna district collector Sandeep Yadav told PTI that as per the survey, relief (funds) has been given to all affected farmers in the district.
The Congress general secretary also appealed to the farmers across the state that if they are affected with the issues, they should stage protest near the highway of their respective villages.
