Uttar Pradesh High Court Serves Notice to Sonia Gandhi. Congress President Sonia Gandhi has been issued with a legal notice from the Allahabad High court. Ramesh Singh, an electorate of Rae Bareli, filed a petition challenging her election for the parliamentary constituency.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi has been issued with a legal notice from the Allahabad High court. Ramesh Singh, an electorate of Rae Bareli, filed a petition challenging her election for the parliamentary constituency.

Justice Tarun Agarwal of the bench issued a court order for listing the petition on September 8. The court said, "List for orders on 8th September, 2014 by which time the said respondents will file the written statements together with a list of documents which the respondents intend to rely as evidence in support of their defence”.

Petitioner's counsel H S Jain said that two main issues have been raised in the petition. Firstly, Gandhi has been yet to give up her citizenship of Italy and secondly, Shahi Imam of Delhi's Jama Masjid, Ahmed Bukhari, had appealed in favor of the Congress after the announcement of election dates.

Two important concerns have been raised in the petition said H S Jain, petitioner’s counsel. Primarily, Mrs. Gandhi has been yet to give up her citizenship of Italy and secondly, Shahi Imam of Delhi's Jama Masjid, Ahmed Bukhari, had appealed in favor of the Congress after the declaration of election dates. The petitioner alleged this is wrong in the spirit of law and Sonia’s election must be declared null and void.
