New Delhi:It’s official, Bangalore will be called Bengaluru, Mangalore Mangaluru and Mysore Mysure after the Centre has cleared the Karnataka government’s eight-year-old proposal to rename 12 cities and tows of the state.
Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Friday gave his approval to the state recommendation to change the names of the 12 towns and cities in consonance with their pronunciation in Kannada.
The other cities and towns which have been renamed are Bellary as Ballari, Bijapur as Vijapura, Chikmagalur as Chikkamagaluru, Gulbarga Kalaburagi, Hospet as Hosapete, Shimoga as Shivamogga, Hubli as Hubballi and Tumkur as Tumakuru.
