Startling statement amid successful J&K polls

New Delhi: Knowing fully well that India is very much against any kind of mediation in Kashmir, in a surprise move United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed his readiness to engage with India and Pakistan in resolving the issue if requested by both the nations. ”As I have stated in the past, if both countries request it, I am ready to engage further to assist in resolving this issue,” the Secretary General said.

His statement assumes greater significance as Kashmir is witnessing several rounds of elections. Pakistan-sponsored terrorism in a desperate bid to disrupt the poll process is resorting to terrorist attacks. Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally in Srinagar and Anantnag, four separate militant attacks rocked the Kashmir last Friday, leaving eleven security men and eight militants dead.

The terrorist and their masters across the border are encouraging insurgency and violence in Kashmir to divert global attention from the fact that the Kashmiris have declared their loyalty to India by participating in the democratic process in an unprecedented manner.
