Guwahati: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh Thursday termed the violence in Assam that killed 73 tribals as an act of terrorism, and said the central government will adopt a zero tolerance policy towards it.

"The violence in Assam is not merely a case of insurgency, but a case of terrorism," he said. "We are going to deal with this sternly."

Bodo militants sprayed bullets on unarmed tribals in three districts of Kokrajhar, Sonitpur and Chirang Tuesday.

Rajnath Singh visited some of the areas in the affected areas of Sonitpur district. He went to a few relief camps and held a meeting with security personnel.

Meanwhile, the toll in Assam violence Tuesday evening has risen to 73, with the recovery of two more bodies from Kokrajhar district late Wednesday.
