Obviously, Delhi assembly outcome has upset Prime Minister so much that he has refused to accept the people's adulation and a temple and he has poured water on the sentiments of his followers.
"Building such Temples is not what our culture teaches us. Personally, it made me very sad. Would urge those doing it not to do it.— Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) February 12, 2015 he said in his twitter handle and urged them to spend their effort towards clean India and if they had time and resources. But sources in Delhi and Gujarat say that had BJP won the Delhi elections, they would have insisted on Modi unveiling the temple.
Modi who has a social media following of over one crore, second only to US President Obama and he was the first personality who utilised the Twitter Mirror and Instagram in the entire world to indicate his location and his sentiments. Such a personality to be clubbed with a demi-god status and place in line with road side deities of India has caught him off guard, says his aides.
After the prime minister's disapproval, the temple trust postponed the inaugural slated for February 15 and also decided to replace his idol with Bharat Mata.
It took around two years to build the temple and initially had a photograph of Prime Minister Modi. After Modi's win, the temple became popular and the photo has been replaced with prime minister's idol. They got a sculptor from Kerala to do the bust of Modi on the basis of a painting from a Odisha artist and the statue cost Rs.1.6 lakhs. A Modi fan Ramesh Unnad has financed the temple.
Modi fans consider him the present day Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel and plan to install such idols and temples in almost every village of Gujarat. Since last few months, prayers and bhajans were held in this temple spread over half an acre in Rajkot. Had everything gone well, September 17, the 65th birthday of Modi would have been celebrated with pomp and gaiety at this temple which was to have been inaugurated on Sunday, February 15 by a Gujarat minister.
