50% of PGLA Guerrillas are women, says Maoist leader The People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA), the armed wing of the Communist Party of India (Maoist) – a banned organization in India, is attracting more women with more than fifty percent of the PLGA cadres currently in central regional bureau of CPI (Maoist) being women.

The People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA), the armed wing of the Communist Party of India (Maoist) – a banned organization in India, is attracting more women with more than fifty percent of the PLGA cadres currently in central regional bureau of CPI (Maoist) being women. The revelation was part of a 73-page interrogation report(IR) of senior Maoist leader Chambala Ravinder alias Arjun.

But the sources in the Maoist movement say that the IR allegedly released by Chattisgarh police was a plan of the police intelligence to stall the number of recruits into Maoist cadres in the wake of large scale fire-bombing and rapes by the CRPF in the Chattisgarh region.

Chambala Ravinder alias Arjun, 44, is a senior Maoist leader who surrendered before Telangana police in July 2014 along with his wife V Adimi, carried a reward of Rs 20 lakh. The police report provides an insight into the current functioning, finances and operations of Maoists, especially in their stronghold Bastar region in Chattisgarh.

According to IR, men are not eager to join revolution instead they are happy to work outside. Women, due to marriage and other social issues, join cadres which have resulted in half of the PLGA cadres in CRB being women and Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee (DKSZC) has recruited around 360 cadres in 2013-14 with almost equal number of members deserting the organization during the same period. Maximum recruits – around 300 – were from south Bastar and west Bastar.
