So finally, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan plunks safe, at least for now, after the Bombay High Court suspended the five-year jail sentence awarded by the sessions court in the 2002 hit-and-run case, earlier this week.

The court will now hear the matter on June 15, after the vacation session ends, and give supplementary directions regarding the hearing of the appeal. This brings forth full-size relief to the actor and his family, also to the large horde of die-hard ‘Bhai’ fans.

As per Indian Express Justice A M Thipsay who chaired the bench said, “The applicant was on bail throughout the trial…. Even on the basis that there is sufficient evidence to indicate that the applicant was driving the vehicle, certainly a number of arguable points have been raised which need consideration.”

The honorable High Court also articulated that the inclusion of Section 304-II (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code and expressed that the included section needed further examination and consideration.
Though the court here has scrapped the verdict of the lower court, it hasn’t absolved the Bollywood superstar of the alleged crime. He may not be a convict at present, but not a free man as well.

Only when the further hearing begins and verdict is pronounced should anything be made out. Calling shots too soon is just capriciousness and absolute ignorance of the way courts function. Hence reading today’s judgement as permanent pardon by judiciary by his over enthusiastic followers is imprudence.

Despite pro-Salman splinter groups going gung-ho about the latest order and viewing this as an eventual triumph, they are oblivious of the fact that real trouble still rests ahead, at least certain impediments, for the popular actor.

There are two reasons other than the existing one for the argument to make sense:
1) Black buck poaching case

2) Arms case in Jodhpur High Court

Both the cases are still awaiting decision of the courts. Salman has already been served sentences of five and one year already in the chinkara and black buck cases, respectively.

Nonetheless, he is out on bail currently, as appeals in both the cases are resting in the High Court for further hearing.

The hearing on Arms case is scheduled on May 28. So, the forthcoming times are harsh, and those who mull over this termination of sentence as elimination of all hurdles must give a re-thought.
