Senior advocate Abha Singh, who is a petitioner in Bollywood actor Salman Khan\'s hit-and-run case, on Friday said an application of perjury has been filed against the Mumbai Police, accusing the force of being responsible for \'purposely\' delaying the case.
Mumbai: Senior advocate Abha Singh, who is a petitioner in Bollywood actor Salman Khan's hit-and-run case, on Friday said an application of perjury has been filed against the Mumbai Police, accusing the force of being responsible for 'purposely' delaying the case.
"Basically, this perjury application is against the Mumbai Police, and we will stick to it, because it was primarily the Mumbai Police which has purposely delayed the case. Today, the Bombay High Court also said what the defence said: why did the investigation officer not record the statement of [Salman's driver] Ashok Singh," Abha Singh told the media.
"This means that the police have purposely not recorded the statement of Ashok Singh to help the accused and the perjury case will only be against the police," she added.
Earlier in the day, the Bombay High Court has suspended Salman's five year sentence in the case. With this ruling, the Dabangg star will not be taken to jail. However, he will first have to go to the Sessions
Court in order to execute a fresh bail bond because his two-day interim bail ends today.
On Wednesday, a Mumbai Sessions Court found Salman guilty of culpable homicide and sentenced him to five years imprisonment in connection with the 2002 hit-and-run case, where he ran over a homeless person and injured four others.
However, the Bombay High Court granted him a two-day interim bail for the same.
