Bareilly: In a novel idea which could bring relief to mothers whose kids shy away from drinking milk, a premier livestock research and development institute here has developed a technique that can make chips out of milk."The technique developed by the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) will be made available to companies and milk chips will be available for children in the days to come.

With this technique, kids will get all the nutrition value of milk in chips," IVRI Director R K Singh said. Singh said the institute had researched on milk and products made with it and a number of techniques have been devised to prepare things after extracting fat from the milk. "One of them is milk chips, which could prove beneficial for kids, who avoid drinking milk on some pretexts," he said.

"Like other chips, milk chips will be available in packets. It can be fried and could be consumed by heating in microwave. They will be very nutritious and could also be used in vrat (fasting)," Singh said. The institute has also worked on making low-fat paneer, which would look and taste like normal one, he said. The technique will be made available to companies and entrepreneurs to make it available for common man, he added.
