New Delhi: Terming the upcoming Assembly elections in Bihar as the “mother of all elections”, Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi said on Sunday that the polls were likely to held sometime in September-October.

The elections, that will see the BJP battle it out against a united Janata Parivar, will see as extensive Central forces and a reworked expenditure monitoring system to curb money and muscle power. “Abuse of money is a big problem in Bihar. Therefore, this time we are going in for more systematic efforts. Certain legal amendments are yet to come from the law ministry. But within our powers, we have launched expenditure monitoring,” Mr Zaidi said during an interview.

He said that the EC had undertaken mapping of all constituencies of Bihar into three categories with the most sensitive ones seeing heavy deployment of forces “well in time.” “We will identify persons who serve as channels for distributing bribes, liquor and gifts. This assessment is going on and we hope to come up with a re-strategised expenditure monitoring,” he said.
