Assam Flood Situation Improves. The flood situation in Assam showed signs of improving rapidly with little over 15,000 people reeling under the waters on Saturday in more than 70 villages across the state, down from the 30,000 persons affected on Friday.

Guwahati: The flood situation in Assam showed signs of improving rapidly with little over 15,000 people reeling under the waters on Saturday in more than 70 villages across the state, down from the 30,000 persons affected on Friday.

Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said in its daily flood report that more than 15,300 people are affected as of now in 72 villages across Barpeta, Dhemaji, Tinsukia, Morigaon and Lakhimpur districts.

Till Friday, more than 30,000 people were affected in 121 villages under 7 districts across the state. Barpeta district had the most persons hit by the flood at 10,000, followed by Morigaon with nearly 4,000 people, ASDMA said.

Authorities are running three relief camps in Tinsukia, where a total of 198 persons are sheltered at this moment, it added. Over 1,800 hectares of crop areas are under water currently, the report mentioned.
