Waterways Will Be Developed: Gadkari. Union Minister for Surface Transport, Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari on Saturday said that waterways will be developed in the country.

Jabalpur: Union Minister for Surface Transport, Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari on Saturday said that waterways will be developed in the country.

"Waterways will be developed by conserving rivers in the country. In foreign countries, 90 per cent of industry is based along waterways while in India it is just 2.3 per cent," the Union Minister said at a function here.

Gadkari was here to lay the foundation stone of 601 km long national highway projects to be developed at a cost of Rs 4,024 crore in the state.

The Union Minister assured that there will be no shortage of funds for the development of Madhya Pradesh, and Rs 15,000 crore would be allocated for development of roads in the state.

He also lauded the state for achieving highest agricultural growth rate in the country. The state recorded 23 per cent agri-growth in 2014-15.

Addressing the function, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that Rewa-Sidhi-Singrauli-Katni region will be developed as an industrial corridor. He also announced that all the national highways in the state will be constructed using RCC material.
