ASI Aryabhata Awardees for 2012, 2013 Declared. The president ASI is pleased to announce Aryabhata, ASI and ASI-ISRO and Space Gold Medal awards for the years 2012 and 2013. The awardees have been selected by two high level expert committees.

The president ASI is pleased to announce Aryabhata, ASI and ASI-ISRO and Space Gold Medal awards for the years 2012 and 2013. The awardees have been selected by two high level expert committees.

ASI announced the awards for the years 2012. and 2013 Dr. Ranganath R Navalgund, Vikram Sarabhai Distinguished Professor and Dr. Avinash Chnader, Ex-Secretary, Dept of Defence R&D, Director General, DRDO & Scientific Adviser to Raksha Mantri (SA to RM) were selected for the Prestigious Aryabhata Award for the years 2012 and 2013 respectively. Along with these, a host of names from ISRO and DRDO scientific community working in different areas of astronautics, namely; Rocket and related technology, Spacecraft and related technology, Space sciences and applications and Space systems management were also announced:

The Aryabhata Award, which is named after the fifth century Indian Astronomer and Mathematician and also in commemoration of the first Indian Satellite, Aryabhata, launched on April 19, 1975, is presented annually to an individual for outstanding lifetime contribution to the promotion of astronautics in India. The award consists of a citation and Rs. 1,00,000/- in cash. Dr Avinash Chander has been conferred the Aryabhata Award for his lifetime contributions to Aeronautics and Astronautics in India. He is regarded as the Chief architect of long range missiles and steered the maiden three missions of ICBM Agni 5 successfully.

Shri BHVS Narayana Murthy, Outstanding Scientist and Associate Director and Technology Director, Navigation and Embedded Computers, Research Centre Imarat, Hyderabad has been conferred with Rocketry and Related technologies award in recognition of his prodigious research, innovations, sustained contributions and leadership concerning development of state-of-the-art Real Time Onboard Mission Computers, Real Time Software and other Avionics technologies for numerous Indian Missiles and other Aerospace applications.
