Bhopal: A 40-member CBI team arrived here on Monday to investigate the Vyapam scam in Madhya Pradesh with its chief affirming that it would try not to disappoint the countrymen.

"We will not let down the country," said R.P. Agarwal, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) joint director, who is heading the probe team was handed over some investigation-related documents from the Special Task Force (STF).

"The Supreme Court of India has given the responsibility to the CBI to investigate the matter. The probe's direction will be decided along with the progress in the case," said Agarwal.

According to sources, CBI officers discussed the case with STF members Kamal Maurya and Rajesh Chandel. During the discussion that was held at the CBI office, some documents were also handed over to the agency officials. The 40-member CBI team reached Bhopal and began investigations as per the Supreme Court guidelines.

The STF was formed by the Madhya Pradesh government on August 26, 2013. Later, in April, 2014, the Madhya Pradesh High Court ordered the setting up of a special investigation team (SIT) headed by retired MP judge Chandresh Bhushan to monitor the STF probe. On July 9, the Supreme Court handed over to the CBI the investigation into the recruitment scam in the Madhya Pradesh Vyavsayik Pareeksha Mandal (Vyapam) and probe into the over 40 deaths linked to it.
