Guwahati: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs , Kiren Rijiju on Saturday criticized the Congress for earlier supporting the Naga peace accord and said that the party later took a 'U-turn' on the matter.

While speaking to the media Rijiju said "The Prime Minister made an announcement that there will be some agreement on the Government of India's talk with the NSCN (IM) fraction."

"If frame work was laid and I was initially very happy that all the chief ministers of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Manipur welcomed it but suddenly they were summoned to Delhi and paraded before the press to criticize the government it is not a good step," he said.

"All the chief ministers initially welcomed it and I thought that should be the spirit because after all it is a movement towards securing peace" he added

Rijiju further said that the peace accord was a good step taken by the government for a more peaceful Northeast.

"We need peace to come back to North East, The security situation in north east has improved but we need complete peace for that this is a good step but first you welcome it then you make a U-turn and on the direction of the Sonia Gandhiji the three chief ministers make a contradictory statement to what the stand they had taken earlier it is not good "he further denoted

The Government of India and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) on Monday successfully concluded the dialogue on Naga political issue and signed an agreement in Prime Minister Modi's presence.
