New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday that the Congress behaviour during the monsoon session of parliament was similar to that during the Emergency, a union minister said.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Rajiv Pratap Rudy said Modi made the statement during a speech at an NDA meeting.

"Barring some legislation, no other major legislation was possible. It’s been frustrating but educating for the nation," the Finance Minister said "The Congress party's real intent was to not let the economy grow; they used "lung power" to try and halt progress. India stands educated about Congress party and the family that controls it. Ours wasn't a protest march, but an attempt to highlight that one cant have disruption without a cause.

"This session saw many lows. The supreme leader of a major party party entered the well; and Rahul Gandhi can't differentiate between Parliament speech and slogans. When one becomes a senior, mature statements are required. But the more he (Rahul) grows, the more he immatures ." The sources said a "two-three-day session" could be convened in September as no major business could be carried out during the monsoon session that began on July 21 and ended on Thursday.

The Rajya Sabha worked for just over nine hours More than 82 hours in the 17-day session were lost in protests, disruptions.
