Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid tribute to late President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam on his 84th birth anniversary as he unveiled a statue of the ‘Missile Man’ in the national capital.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid tribute to late President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam on his 84th birth anniversary as he unveiled a statue of the ‘Missile Man’ in the national capital.


"Dr. Kalam was always looking for challenges and how to overcome them. Our young scientists should get inspired by the way shown by Dr. Kalam," Prime Minister Modi said on Twitter.


Modi will also inaugurate a photo exhibition in the capital as part of Kalam's birth anniversary celebrations.

Bharat Ratna awardee Kalam, who passed away on July 27, was the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007.

Before becoming the President, Kalam had spent four decades as a scientist and science administrator, mainly at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

He was involved in India's civilian space programme and military missile development efforts, earning him the title of 'Missile man'.
