Amid ongoing consultations on restructuring of the party's Punjab unit, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Friday met leaders of Opposition in Municipal Corporations in four major towns of the state.

Congress sources said Mr Rahul met four leaders of Congress from municipal corporations of Ludhiana, Patiala, Jalandhar and Amritsar and asked them about ways to strengthen the party at the grassroots level.

The sources said Mr Rahul wanted to seek the opinion of all elected representatives of Congress in the state before taking a final decision on the party's restructuring.

This move, party insiders, say is also aimed at bringing in democracy in the party.

Mr Rahul has already met party MLAs and has sought their opinion on party restructuring as also who could lead the state Congress.

He has also met former chief minister Amarinder Singh as well as former deputy chief minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, besides PCC chief Partap Singh Bajwa.

Former Union ministry Preneet Kaur, the wife of Amarinder and a Congress MLA from Punjab, also met Mr Rahul yesterday to discuss the restructuring issue.

Mr Rahul is now slated to meet Congress general secretary in charge of Punjab Shakeel Ahmad to discuss the matter.
