Hyderabad: Veteran actor Anupam Kher on Thursday announced that a delegation would take out a march from India Gate to the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Saturday and would submit a representation to President Pranab Mukherjee saying that the country is very tolerant.

Talking to The Hans India on the controversy pertaining to `intolerance’ in the country, he said that India has seen many up’s and downs in its long journey of 67 years and that there was a need for the Prime Minister to gag motormouths in his party.

“I think Modi is the most abused person. They called him ‘khoon ka saudagar’, ‘khasma soor’ and all kinds of things. That shows that India is a very tolerant country. So, my march is based on this,” he explained.

Kher felt that it was not enough for him to go on television for a debate and log on to Twitter to talk about it; so he has decided to meet the President to submit a representation.

Asked about people who were giving away awards in the name of intolerance in India, he gave the example of director Dibakar Banerjee. “He returned the award which did not belong to him. It belongs to producer. He got two more national awards but he has returned only this which belongs to the poor producer,” he said.

In reply to another question about him having a soft corner towards BJP because his wife was in the saffron party, Anupam said, “The BJP link is just an escapist tendency of the critics. It is my decision and has nothing to do with the political leaning of my wife. Let me also clarify that I am not a crusader.”
