Two newborns succumbed to death due to burns as they were kept in a warmer meant to keep them safe at a hospital in Kolkata. A five-day old infant girl along with a four-day-old boy died due to the gross negligence at the Medical College and Hospital (MCHC).

After the parents of one of the babies lodged a complaint with the MCHC authorities, a probe was launched by the health department and a committee has been constituted for the probe.

Both the babies developed jaundice and were kept in the same radiant warmer along with a third newborn. But the third baby was taken away by the mother and the other two were left behind without the apparatus as the third baby ad the temperature probe to monitor heat attached. None of the hospital staff took notice of this leading to the deaths of the new borns.
