The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday condemned the statement made by former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah over Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) and said that it was an insult to India.
New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday condemned the statement made by former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah over Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) and said that it was an insult to India."He should not make such remarks and we demand that he take back his statement. PoK is a part of India and is under the illegal clutches of Pakistan. By making such a statement, he has insulted India and we do not accept his words. He is insulting India and the Parliament," BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain told ANI here.
Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) Jitendra Singh earlier slamming Abdullah's statement said that the Indian Government had made its stand clear on the matter and added that it was retrieving the occupied Kashmir from the illegal clutches of Pakistan.
"How can we forget that in year 1994 there was unanimous resolution passed by the Parliament wherein it was clearly stated that as far as J&K is concerned, between India and Pakistan, if at all there's an outstanding issue, it is that of how to retrieve back the part of J&K which continues to remain illegal occupation even after 60-68 years," Singh said.
However, contradictory views emerged from the Congress on Abdullah's controversial statement.
"Kashmir belongs to India and every inch of Kashmir that is illegally occupied by Pakistan needs to be returned to India as it belongs to us," Congress leader Pramod Tiwari told ANI here.
Congress leader Manish Tewari, however, extended his full support to Abdullah's statement, saying that neither Pakistan could take Kashmir nor could India take control of the PoK.
Abdullah had earlier courted controversy with his remark that India should give up its conquest of trying to control the PoK as it belonged to Pakistan.
"That is part of Pakistan and it will continue to remain so. This (Jammu and Kashmir) is part of India and it will continue to remain so. The only solution is that both India and Pakistan talk and find some way out through negotiations," he told the media.
