Do MPs deserve Pay hike with no productive work?
Highlights

Our Members of Parliament have become so selfish and insensitive that they have brazenly given themselves a 100% rise in their salaries and there was absolutely not even a whimper of opposition from any MP from across the political parties.

Our Members of Parliament have become so selfish and insensitive that they have brazenly given themselves a 100% rise in their salaries and there was absolutely not even a whimper of opposition from any MP from across the political parties.

It should be remembered here that the functioning of the Parliament has been consistently disrupted by Congress and other political parties to score some political brownie points. In fact, a large number of bills, including some very important bill like GST, have not been passed by the House.

One wonders as to what they have done for the country and their constituencies to give themselves such huge salary hike. Have all the MPs attended the Parliament regularly and discharged their duties by raising issues concerning the citizens of the nation? The fact of the matter is that the entire Winter session of the Parliament has been washed out without transacting any business whatsoever. The main agenda of the MPs was to disrupt the functioning of the House and their sole aim was to get political advantage for their concerned parties. The discussion of Bills of serious natures was never in their agenda.

The salary hike in case of Bank Employees after a protracted negotiation and several strikes was a mere 13.5% and in the case of Central Govt. Employees the 7 th PRC (Pay Revision Commission) has recommended a salary hike of 23.55%. If one takes these hikes as barometer how can a STEEP RISE OF 100% be justified for Parliamentarians? It defies logic.

For Parliamentarians it is not known why an autonomous body has not been constituted to study and recommend a reasonable and fair hike in salaries for the MPs. In the absence of such a mechanism the Parliamentarians are giving themselves whopping salary hikes of 100% which is not based on proper analysis.

The BJP Govt. at the Centre has sent out a very wrong message to CRORES of citizens and also Employees for Public and Private sectors who are watching how honest tax payers’ money is being used by Parliamentarians for raising their salaries which is NOT JUSTIFIED by any stretch of imagination.

Given the abysmal performance of the MPs and the poor quality of work done by the MPs in both the Houses of Parliament the 100% rise in their salaries and other Perks is absolutely unjustified.
