NSDC in partnership with KTI launches the first Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojna (PMKVY) Skill Centrein Sigra,Varanasi

Following Hon’ble Skills Minister, Shri Rudy’s visit to Varanasi last month with an agenda to focus on skill development in the city, the first step has been taken by setting up and launching Varanasi’s first PMKVY Skill Centre in Sigra through Kohinoor Technical Institute (KTI) in partnership with National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).

Following Hon’ble Skills Minister, Shri Rudy’s visit to Varanasi last month with an agenda to focus on skill development in the city, the first step has been taken by setting up and launching Varanasi’s first PMKVY Skill Centre in Sigra through Kohinoor Technical Institute (KTI) in partnership with National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).

The KTI skill center will extend skill development and employment opportunities under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana across different entry level trades and job roles for the youth of the city. Kohinoor Technical Institute (KTI) which is a training partner affiliated to National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC),under the guidance of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship will train students in courses like Fashion Designing, Electricals, Retail, AC & Refrigeration, Telecom & Mobile Repairing, Life Skills, Yoga etc.

The PMKVY skill center was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chief Guest at the event, Shri Ram Gopal Mohale, the Mayor of Varanasi.Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) is a unique initiative by the Government of India that aims to offer 24 lakh Indian youth meaningful, industry relevant, skill based training. Under this scheme, the trainees will be offered a financial reward and a government certification on successful completion of training and assessment, which will help them in securing a job for a better future. So far 5,58,250youth have been trained under the scheme across pan India.

Extending his best wishes to the city, Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship(Independent Charge) said, “I urge the youth of Varanasi to make full use of this opportunity by enrolling themselves to the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojna and get trained in a skill set of their choice at this PMKVY skill centre. This will empower them will skills that will make them employable and will help them transform their lives. We are planning and target to open multiple such centres in the city so that we create several opportunities for skill development and employment for the youth here.”

Key highlights of KTI’s PMKVY vocational skilling center are –

  • • Best in class lab facilities with state of the art machines and equipment’s for smart classrooms
  • • Courses are delivered with 70% curriculum based On Job Training (OJT) and 30% class room training
  • • Qualified faculty with industry work experience
  • • Supplement courses on Personality development, Yoga, English Speaking ability
  • • Counselling, mobilization and placement support
  • • Special focus on building Entrepreneurship

This center will be one-of-its kind model for the state of Uttar Pradesh and KTI plans to create this Centre as a Hub-and-Spoke Model, which will create a reach across the state and provide benefits to a cross section of the population.

KTI and the Ministry, along with NSDC will also plan Kaushal Vikas Melas in Varanasi to create awareness about PMKVY scheme.Other dignitaries present during the inauguration were MLA Smt.
