Chennai : The Sri Lankan Coast Guard early on Thursday morning Guard caught 12 Indian fishermen and impounded two fishing trawlers on charges of violating the international maritime boundary and poaching near the Thalaimannar Coast.

According to a Sri Lanka Navy Spokesman, Captain Akram Alavi, the arrest was made by the Coast Guard with the help of the Sri Lankan Navy, adding that the arrested Indian fishermen would be handed over to the Fisheries Authorities in Thalaimannar later in the day for further legal action.

Earlier, the Sri Lankan authorities had taken into custody 15 Indian fishermen and 69 fishing vessels.
