The Border Security Force (BSF) seized packets of contraband suspected to be heroin and a cache of ammunition at the Punjab Border here yesterday.

Amritsar : The Border Security Force (BSF) seized packets of contraband suspected to be heroin and a cache of ammunition at the Punjab Border here yesterday.

Besides the drugs, one pistol (9 mm), two pistol magazines and 15 rounds of live ammunition were recovered.

Keeping in view of the vulnerability of the border and heightened activities of smugglers on the border, operational guidelines were issued for securing the border, so as to effectively check activities of untoward and suspicious activities on the Punjab border with Pakistan.

Accordingly, DIG Sector BSF Amritsar directed Field Commanders to maintain extra vigil on border to thwart the attempts.

The BSF sentry deployed on duty in the area of responsibility yesterday, saw two Indians Ranjha Singh and Sonu Kumar Sharma throwing a contraband packet over the fence towards Indian side following which they were apprehended immediately.

Thorough search of the area was carried out by BSF and during the search, three more packets of contraband along with ammunition were recovered.
