Global majors participate in India Aviation 2016
Some 200 aviation companies from over 25 countries participated at the 5th India Aviation Summit held in Hyderabad.
Hyderabad : Some 200 aviation companies from over 25 countries participated at the 5th India Aviation Summit held in Hyderabad.
The 5-day long event, held between March 16 and 20 at Begumpet Airport, was organized by the Ministry of Civil Aviation along with Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).
The theme of this year's show was 'Indian Civil Aviation Sector: Potential as Global Manufacturing and MRO Hub'.
The event, inaugurated by President Pranab Mukherjee, focused on the opportunities in aviation sector as well as improving and augmenting airports infrastructure.
An exhibition stall of the Airports Authority of India ( AAI) displayed replica of airport-like Terminal Building Air side, control tower, R&D capability and tools.
Chairman of Airports Authority of India, S. Raheja, said that their main focus is to connect regional airports under regional connectivity scheme, which is mentioned by the civil aviation ministry.
"How we take air travel to the masses. It is an honor for us as the event was inaugurated by the President of India and attended by our minister of civil aviation. There has been a lot of importance given to this which we jointly organize with FICCI," he said.
Well-known aircraft and helicopters manufacturers, machinery and equipment makers, skill development and training institutions participated in the expo and showcased their expertise in the aviation industry.
The expo also showcased Indian civil aviation achievements and its future plans.
"Primarily, the main purpose is to showcase what are the achievements, what are the likely areas we will be concentrating and how the aviation sector will progress in future. It is broadly covering even the jet airways, business jets, small jets, which are open to the private sector and manufacturing sector. So, this was the ideal plan to showcase the aviation sector," Raheja said.
Airports Authority of India is developing airport infrastructure, complete with world-class facilities, across the country.
It owns and maintains 125 airports and is making fresh attempts to improve infrastructure and facilities at all airports.
"Our main aim is to build capacity so the moment we see there is an increased congestion at one airport we start building capacity for another before the actual demand arises," said Raheja.
Such events not only help in promoting the Indian civil aviation growth story but also attract global aviation majors to partner with it.
