PM's Brussels visit to focus on port logistics cooperation, FDI boost: MEA
In an endeavour to strengthen bilateral ties between New Delhi and Brussels and improve cooperation on global issues, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visiting Belgium during the first leg of his three-nation visit, which will include stopovers in the United States and Saudi Arabia.
New Delhi : In an endeavour to strengthen bilateral ties between New Delhi and Brussels and improve cooperation on global issues, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visiting Belgium during the first leg of his three-nation visit, which will include stopovers in the United States and Saudi Arabia.
"With an idea of improving port logistics, boosting infrastructure, producing renewable energy and enhancing growth of pharmaceutical and chemical sectors, Prime Minister Modi will reach Belgium on 30th March," informed K. Nandini Singla, Joint Secretary, Europe West (EW) Division in a media briefing on Monday.
"Another issue of interest to India in Belgium is to enhance the diamond trade between the two countries. The Prime Minister will also address Indian diamond traders in Brussels," she added.
Antwerp in Belgium is the largest diamond trading hub globally, as about 84 per cent of the world's rough diamonds passes through there. There is a sizable presence of Indian traders in Antwerp.
"On the cultural side, he will meet some Indologists living in Belgium and those who have a keen and abiding interest in India," Singla said.
This will be Prime Minister Modi's first official visit to Belgium.
"The second important event which Prime Minister Modi will attend is the 13th India-EU Summit meeting, to advance the India-EU Strategic Partnership and make it a bigger partner in Indian flagship programs like Make in India, Clean India. At the same time, the aim will be to attract more FDI," she said.
She further said that the Prime Minister is also expected to sign several agreements with European Union member nations.
From Brussels, Prime Minister Modi will leave for Washington to attend the Fourth Nuclear Security Summit (NSS) on March 31 and April 1, where he is expected to make specific announcemnents and proposals with regard to nuclear security.
Thereafter, he will travel to Saudi Arabia.
