Guwahati: High pitched campaign for first phase assembly poll in Assam by heavyweight national leaders and local leaders ended on Saturday evening. A total of 539 candidates are fray in the first phase poll in 65 constituencies of the state to be held on April 4.

Among the total candidates for the first phase poll 496 are male and 43 female candidates.

The total voters of the 65 constituencies are 95,11,732 and among them 49,16,015 are male and 45,95,712 are female voters.

Political leaders and candidates had made last efforts to woo the voters on Saturday.

Voters will exercise their franchise to decide fate of several high-profile candidates on April 4 including Assam CM Tarun Gogoi (Titabor), BJP’s Chief Ministerial candidate Sarbananda Sonowal (Majuli), AGP president Atul Bora (Bokakhat), Brindabon Goswami (Tezpur), Pradip Hazarika (Amguri), Congress candidate and Assam minister Gautam Roy (Katlichera), Sarat Borkotoky (Sonari).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP’s national president Amit Shah, union ministers Nitin Gadkari, Sushma Swaraj, Smriti Irani, Jewel Oram had campaigned for the party candidates for the first phase poll.

On the other hand, for Congress its president Sonia Gandhi, vice-president Rahul Gandhi, senior leaders Golam Nabi Azad, Jairam Ramesh had campaigned for the party candidates.
