"Urging all those voting in West Bengal & Assam today to vote in large numbers. Young friends in particular must exercise their franchise," Prime Minister Modi tweeted.

The first phase of polling in West Bengal on Monday witnessed 31 percent of the electorate casting their votes till 11 a.m. while a 19 percent voter turnout was recorded in Assam.

In West Bengal, 18 percent of the electorate has cast their votes till 9 a.m. while there has been a 12 percent voter turnout in Assam till 9 a.m.
