Congress president Sonia Gandhi will today address an election rally in Barpeta District of Assam ahead of the second phase of the polling.

Gandhi, earlier in her rally in Sivasagar on March 30, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi talks about Assam Tea but has done nothing to improve the plight of tea garden workers.

Accusing the Modi-led NDA government of being biased towards Assam, she said Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has struggled day and night for the progress of the state.

The first phase of Assam assembly elections across 65 constituencies was peaceful with a voter turnout of 70 percent.

The main issues coming to the fore are illegal immigration, corruption, recognition of tribals, and river bank erosion.

With four days to go for the second phase of polls, voter awareness drives are being carried out through different media to educate citizens about the electoral process.
