Encounter between militants, security forces underway in Handwara

An encounter broke out between militants and security forces in a forest area of Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir last night and there have been no casualties so far on either side.

However an Army jawan is reportedly seriously injured and has been airlifted out of the site of encounter for immediate treatment.

Security forces launched an anti-militancy operation in Watsar forests in Handwara area last night following information about the presence of militants in the area. The gunbattle raged when reports last came in.
