Chennai: With only a few days remaining before the big day to decide the fate of the candidates in the upcoming assembly polls in Tamil Nadu, surveys are being conducted and opinions collected to see who has an upper hand.

Interestingly, all hands point towards Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. If results of a recent opinion poll conducted by a Tamil news channel is anything to go by then, AIADMK will sweep the May 16 Assembly elections by winning 164 seats, while the DMK will be a distant second with 66 seats.

According to the channel, AIADMK fared much better than the DMK in all regions — South, North, Chennai, West and Central — as well in the age group as well.

Puthiya Thalaimurai-APT conducted an opinion poll to find out who the people are favouring. According to that, the AIADMK would earn 38.58 per cent of votes, DMK (32.11 per cent), DMDK-PWA-TMC (8.55 per cent), PMK (4.47 per cent), Naam Thamizhar (2.12 per cent) and BJP (1.96 per cent).

The sample size of the survey comprised 4,999 persons across Tamil Nadu between April 18 and May 4. The results were recently telecast on the news channel. The opinion poll predicts a landslide victory for the AIADMK with 164 seats, the DMK 66 seats and others 4.

Of those interviewed, 42.67 per cent of them said they would give another chance to popular leader J Jayalalithaa.

Jayalalithaa also overtook M. Karunanidhi in the category of the Chief Ministerial candidates, scoring 39.66 per cent of votes against his 31.89%.

According to the survey, 31.89 per cent favoured M. Karunanidhi, Vijayakanth (8.59 per cent) and Anbumani Ramadoss (5.03 per cent). Naam Thamizhar convener actor Seeman was also being favoured as their favourite CM candidate by 2.40 per cent of those surveyed.

However, the survey found that 69.37% feel that the DMDK-PWA-TMC combine won't be strong enough.
