Union Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad today said India has acquired the status of a country to become the beacon of 21st century courtesy Prime Minister Narendra Modi's effort and hard-work in the last two years in office.

Addressing the media on the sidelines of the BJP's two-day national executive meeting in Allahabad, Prasad said the Indian economy was at an all-time high during the rule of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, adding the country is at the moment able to showcase itself at the global platform following the achievements in the last two years.

Prasad mentioned that the growth numbers have risen from 5.4 percent to 7.6 percent in the last quarter.

He also mentioned that the economic growth rate has been constantly improving in this quarter with an average of up to 7.9 percent.

"We have been successful in making the fiscal deficit go down from 4.4 percent to 3.9 percent, whereas CAD had witnessed downfall from 3.8 percent to 2.8 percent," he added.

Highlighting the expectations, Prasad said that with good monsoon awaited, the growth numbers will trigger a positive bias in the market.

The Union Minister's assertion comes as the Centre is set to give a major push to the ambitious Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill in the Monsoon Session of Parliament.

With the GST having the potential to add one percent to the GDP, the ruling dispensation is keen to get this passed in the Monsoon Session. (ANI)
