​Guwahati: At least 30 people were killed and 10 others injured after a ill fated passenger bus felt into a deep gorge in Meghalaya's East Jaintia Hills on Tuesday night, officials said on Wednesday.

According to the reports, the ill fated passenger bus of Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) plying from Silchar to Guwahati was skidded off from road and felt into a 500 feet deep gorge near Sonapur Mandir in East Jaintia Hills district.

East Jaintia Hills district police said that at 30 people were feared to death.

Meghalaya police, rescue teams are engaged to recover the bodies and rescue the injured persons.

So far 11 bodies were recovered and injured persons had sent to Silchar and Guwahati.
