A judicial probe into the Jawahar Bagh incident in Mathura began on Saturday with former Allahabad High Court judge inspecting the sight where 24 people including two police officers were killed on June 2 during an anti-encroachment drive.

A judicial probe into the Jawahar Bagh incident in Mathura began on Saturday with former Allahabad High Court judge inspecting the sight where 24 people including two police officers were killed on June 2 during an anti-encroachment drive.

"The probe would be based on cause of incident, lacuna in collecting and providing information, shortcomings in the planning of Mathura police, role of supervising officers, efforts made to prevent incident, pressure if any on district administration, role of officers during the incident and enquiry made," Justice Mirza Imtiaz Murtaza said, adding anybody may present any information related to the incident.

A delegation of BJP leaders also met Justice Murtaza to present its submission.

The delegation, however, was told that if it is really interested in presenting something related to Jawahar Bag, it may do so before the commission on oath. As many as 25 affidavits were presented on Saturday before the commission. The office of the commission would continue to function in the building of Public Works Department (PWD) inspection house till July 15.
