Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa, who has been undergoing treatment since September, has recovered and she can leave the hospital whenever she feels like it, Apollo Hospitals said on Saturday.

The AIADMK chief was admitted to the Chennai facility with high fever and dehydration on September 22, but news of her treatment has been tightly controlled with cryptic health bulletins adding to the many rumours flying around.

“Jayalalithaa’s infection fully under control and now she can go whenever she feels fit,” ANI quoted Pratap Reddy, founder of Apollo Hospitals, as saying.

Though there were reports that Jayalalithaa had high fever and dehydration, initial press releases from the hospital failed to throw any light on the exact nature of her ailment. In its bulletins, all that the hospital said was Jayalalithaa was responding well to treatment.

A statement in the first week of November said Jayalalithaa had “fully recovered” and was now “conscious and aware of things around her”.
