According to reports quoting highly placed sources in Tamil Nadu, as soon the news of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa being shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Apollo Hospital in Chennai following a cardiac arrest on Sunday evening was out, the State police have been put on a high alert and the entire State machinery is said to be talking all measures to prevent any untoward incident. 

Chennai: According to reports quoting highly placed sources in Tamil Nadu, as soon the news of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa being shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Apollo Hospital in Chennai following a cardiac arrest on Sunday evening was out, the State police have been put on a high alert and the entire State machinery is said to be talking all measures to prevent any untoward incident.

Efforts are on to maintain law and order in case of any unforeseen incident, according to reports. It is learnt that several key officers of Tamil Nadu government, State Ministers and close aides of Jayalalithaa are at Apollo Hospital now. There is increased police presence at Apollo Hospital in Chennai. Police forces have been mobilised across the State.

Governor of Tamil Nadu, Vidyasagar Rao, flew down to Chennai from Mumbai in the evening, it is learnt. According to a statement issued by Apollo Hospital on Sunday evening, Jayalalithaa suffered a cardiac arrest. The hospital said she was being treated by a team of cardiologists, pulmonologists and critical care specialists.
