NEW DELHI: E-commerce giant Amazon has written to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to express regret+ at hurting Indian sensibilities, a day after Swaraj threatened to deny visas to its officials if it didn't take doormats depicting the Indian flag off its site.Amazon has pulled the offending item from its site.

Here's the letter the company sent Swaraj.

Yesterday, one Atul Bhobe tweeted a complaint to Swaraj about the doormats - which were listed on the Amazon Canada website - and asked her to take action.

Swaraj lost no time in shooting off a tweet to the Indian High Commission in Canada, in which she called the sale of the products unacceptable, and asked the High Commission to take the matter up with Amazon "at the highest level."

She also issued a stern warning to Amazon.

It isn't the first time Amazon has found itself in hot water for listing products offensive to Indians.

Last year, the company enraged many on social media after it came to light that it was selling doormats with pictures of Indian gods and goddesses. That discovery even lead to the creation of the hashtag #BoycottAmazon.
