Racer Ashwin Sundar, wife killed in car crash
Car racer Ashwin Sundar and his wife Niveditha were killed on Saturday after their BMW crashed into a tree and burst into flames in Chennai, police said. The couple was returning from dinner when their vehicle hit the tree near Pattinampakkam locality in Chennai.

Sundar was driving the car. With their car trapped between the tree and the wall, they could not get out. Soon, the BMW caught fire and the couple was charred to death.
Niveditha was a doctor in a private hospital in the city. Locals who spotted the burning car informed the Chennai City police control room.
A team from Adayar traffic investigation rushed to the spot immediately after. Mylapore fire services personnel too swung into action. Sources said that firemen took nearly half-an-hour to douse the fire. The team later broke open the car and recovered the bodies. The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem.
According to sources, police were unable to identify the charred bodies initially. However, the couple was identified with the help of the licence plate number. The couple lived in Alapakkam and were returning home after visiting a friend in Raja Annamalaipuram when the incident took place.
Sundar was a rising star in the car racing industry, winning the National F4 championships in 2012 and 2013.
