Thane: A 40-year-old man was allegedly killed by three persons who then dumped the body dumped in a village here, police said today. The three accused were arrested in the wee hours today, they said. On March 18, police got a message that a decomposed body of a man was lying abandoned in a field behind a temple in Khidkhali village near Kalyan township of the district, Inspector, Shil Daighar police station, S P Patil said. The police reached the spot and sent the body for postmortem.

During the probe, the body was identified as that of Pappudhar Chandramah Singh, a labourer from Khidkhali village who used to do building construction work, Patil said. Police also found that Singh had a dispute over money with some other labourers from the village and they had frequent quarrels, he said. A further probe revealed that the three accused - Navin Lakhan Soreen alias Hanuman, Hanuman Masi Khisku alias Dadi and Sanjay Manji Marandi (all aged around 40) - had on March 14 taken the victim along with them for playing cards and since then Singh had not returned home, he said.

Patil said the three men took Singh to an isolated spot and allegedly killed him by slashing his throat. The accused then dumped the body at a field, he said. The deceased's 19-year-old son also told the police that a few days before March 14, the three men had allegedly beaten up Singh over a money-related dispute, he said. Based on the probe, the three men were arrested and charged under IPC sections 302 (murder), 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender), the police officer added.
