New Delhi: Allies of the NDA, the TDP and the Shiv Sena members had an ugly spat in Parliament on Thursday over the alleged ‘goonadagiri’ of the Sena MP Ravindra Gaekwad on an Air India staffer recently. Raking the issue in Parliament, the Shiv Sena members questioned the filing of an attempt to murder case against the MP and demanded the withdrawal of the 'no-flying' diktat against the member immediately.

When Union Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapati Raju firmly stood his ground to state that law would take its course and even MPs were just passengers as far as the airlines was concerned, the Shiv Sena MPs created ruckus in the House warning the government that no "flight shall take off from tomorrow (Friday) from Mumbai" despite the repeated appeals of Speaker Sumitra Mahajan for decorum.

As soon as the Speaker called for an adjournment, the Sena MPs charged towards the Minister and confronted him in an agitated manner. Stunned at the development, Union Ministers, Rajnath Singh, S S Ahluwalia and Smriti Irani rushed to protect Raju and prevent Shiv Sena members from crossing the line of dignity.

A silent Raju was escorted out by Ahluwalia while Irani and Rajanath were seen pacifying the Sena members. The TDP members were visibly upset over the same and tried to protect Raju but tasted the rude behaviour of the Shiva Sena members. In the process, TDP MP T Narasimham's shirt pocket got torned "when it got stuck to the edge of a table".

They threw a protective ring around the Minister being escorted out of the House and later condemned the 'misbehaviour' of the Shiv Sena members, including a Cabinet Minister Anant Geete.

An anguished Union Minister of State Y S Chowdary, later speaking to the media, defended Raju and hoped that the controversy could end in a cordial atmosphere. Raju only explained the legal position and the practices of the airlines while flying, he added. Gajapati Raju just had asked for a proper reply from the MP to resolve the issue, he said. Shiv Sena should have avoided the ugly behaviour, he said.
