New Delhi: In a major setback to the Government of Andhra Pradesh, the Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the latter to conduct auction again for the sale of lands of Sadavarti Choultry on September 14.

Directing its ire on petitioner Sanjiva Reddy, the Supreme CourtBench maintained that it cannot remain with its eyes shut when wrongdoing is taking place. It directed the respondent, Alla Ramakrishna Reddy, to take part in the auction. The bench warned the respondent that Rs 10 crore already paid would be forfeited, if he failed to take part in the auction.

The Apex Court found fault, rather indirectly, with the Government of Andhra Pradesh. It turned down the petition seeking to stop the auction.

Upholding the Hyderabad High Court verdict on the issue, the Supreme Court, in a crucial decision, directed the AP government that the lands should bebrought under the auctioneer’s hammer once again.

It directed its ire on Madala Sanjiva Reddy, who sought to stop the auction. The bench posted the matter for further hearing on September 18. The Sadavarti Choultry has lands at Chengalpattu in Tamil Nadu under survey number 59/1.
