New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched the Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana (Saubhagya) to provide power to all families in India.

The power-for-all Saubhagya scheme is to provide free electricity connection to poor families with a total outlay of Rs 16,320 crore, to be funded largely by the Centre.

“It's unfortunate that till today 4 crore houses in the country, there is no electricity,” the Prime Minister said after launching the scheme at ONGC’s ONGC’s Deendayal Urja Bhawan.

“The Saubhagya scheme will ensure electricity connections for all unelectrified homes in rural as well as urban areas.”

“I’m happy that today, on Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay's anniversary, such a big scheme for the poor of the country is being launched,” he said.
