New Delhi : Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge feels that the Bofors issue was brought up by the Government to "demoralise and demotivate" his party.
Kharge, leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha, said, "After so many years the government is bringing up Bofors issue again, it is politically motivated to defame the Congress."
He added that there was no need to bring up the case after the High Court had dismissed the case in 2005.
Kharge even went on to suggest that advisory of the law department also stated that there is no need for any appeal.
The Bofors scandal rocked the Rajiv Gandhi Government in the 1990s. The Bofors 155-field Howitzer deal was mired in controversies after members of both Indian and Swedish governments were allegedly found involved in accepting kickbacks for facilitating the deal between the two countries.
