Banaskantha (Gujarat): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday asserted that he does not care for "the chair" and only wants to work for the farmers.

Addressing a rally here, the Prime Minister said, "When I had taken over as the Chief Minister (of Gujarat), farmers from Patan and Banaskantha met me and I told them to focus on irrigation. People told me this approach will ensure you are defeated. I said - I do not care for the chair, I want to work for the farmers and want to work for Banaskantha, and Patan."

The Prime Minister also said that Gujarat knows the difference between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress Party.

He also pointed out that during Gujarat floods; it was the BJP that took up the relief work, while the Congress MLAs were relaxing in Bengaluru.

"BJP leaders were providing flood relief, whereas Congress leaders were relaxing in swimming pools in resorts in Bengaluru," Prime Minister Modi said.

The polling for the two-phase elections in the state will take place on December 9 and 14 and votes will be counted on December 18.

The Gujarat Assembly has 182 seats.
