NEW DELHI: Mahathir Mohamad, Prime Minister of Malaysia, today told that Zakir Naik, an Indian Islamic preacher, who is wanted in his home country India is given a permanent residency and will not be sent back unless he is creating any problem.
He left India in 2016 and then moved to Malaysia, where a large number of Muslims are found. Zakir is a revolutionary television preacher. Media sources tells us that the government asked him to expel as both the countries have an extradition treaty. “ As long as he is not creating any problem, we will not deport him because he has been given permanent residency status,” the PM told at a news conference in Putrajaya outside Kuala Lumpur, the administrative capital.
Sources say India had asked to extradite him as he apparently encouraging youth in the country to participate in terror related activities through his speeches.
Zakir, who is 52, spoke about the media reports as “totally baseless and false” and he had no intention to return to India till he felt “safe from unfair prosecution”.
He was prohibited from entering Britain in 2010 after the Home Secretary quoted “numerous comments” which reflected his “unacceptable behaviour”.
Naik told that the Al-Qaeda was not in charge of the 9/11 blasts of the Twin Towers in New York, where 3,000 people lost their lives.
Either of the two countries have not confirmed the extradition request or the charges against Naik.
